Bettie Rothenflue

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of Bettie Jean Rothenflue, age 91 of Kerrville, on Sunday, December 20, 2020.

Bettie was born on the family farm in Comfort, TX on October 30, 1929.  She graduated from Comfort High School in 1947 and shortly thereafter met the love of her life, Don, who declared his intent to marry her on their first date. They wed on November, 26, 1949 and spent 71 beautiful years together raising two daughters, Donna and Patsy.

The family’s early life included international stints as Don’s military career led them overseas to Japan and Italy, among other destinations. Ultimately, they returned to Texas and called Kerrville home for the last 28 years while their family tree blossomed.

Bettie loved to dance, go on daily walks, tend to her garden and play card games and dominoes. She devoted herself fully to her family and had a strong love and faith in our Lord, regularly attending services at Zion Lutheran Church. She was the pragmatic, yet gentle soul in the family spreading love through her cookies, pies, and pastries.  Tea rings were her specialty and regularly enjoyed at family gatherings.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ernst Kott, her mother, Natalie LaSalle, as well as her sister Mabel Schwanke.

Those left to honor her memory include her beloved husband, Don Rothenflue; daughters, Donna Edinburgh (Woody) and Patsy Helvey (Rick); grandchildren, Clint Woods, Angela Helvey, Kelly Mills, and Laurie Edinburgh; great grandchildren, Hannah Griffice, Zoe Woods and Logan Woods.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Zion Lutheran Church or Sid Peterson Hospice.

A private family committal will be held at Fort Sam National Cemetery at a later date.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kerrville Funeral Home (830) 895-5111.
