Clyde's father passed away when he was two, and he and his siblings, May, L.D., James, and Emmett were raised on a small cotton farm by his mother, a strong influence who encouraged each of the children to obtain college degrees. He was married to Rachel Elliott Pressly, daughter and granddaughter of Presbyterian missionaries in Mexico, on October 6, 1943, and to this union were born, Neill Wickliffe, Margaret Reneau, Henry Pressly and Elizabeth Bradley Day. The family was raised in Kingsville, Texas where Clyde was active in the First Presbyterian Church, Kiwanis Club, and as a Boy Scout Leader. Clyde was active in the Methodist Church as a boy, and the Presbyterian Church after marriage, serving as Deacon, Elder, Stephen Minister, Presbytery Chair of Council, and Moderator of two Presbyteries, Brazos and South Texas. In retirement, Clyde continued to serve in volunteer work for the First Presbyterian Church of Kerrville, and donated over 10,000 hours to Heart of the Hills Hospice. He was well known locally for his clock shop, Clyde's Clocks, which he owned and operated from his home from 1983 through 2016, when he retired at the age of 95.
