Obituary

Doris Marie Stallings, lovingly known as “Doe,” was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. On June 14, 2026, Doris went home to be with her Lord and Savior in the beautiful place He had prepared for her.

Doris was born on December 11, 1932, in Dallas, Texas, to James Alvin and Grace Marie Cook. Having been born during the Great Depression and living through the challenges of World War II, she often recalled that while there was a shortage of many things in her home, there was never a shortage of love.

Doris graduated from Sherman High School in 1950. She loved working with people and enjoyed a successful career as a real estate agent for more than 30 years. Through her work, she met the love of her life, Don Stallings, founder of The Originals Building Company. In 1975, Don and Doris united their families and created a home filled with love, embracing all four children of their blended family equally and wholeheartedly.

After their marriage, Don and Doris moved to Del Rio, Texas, where they began their life together and made countless treasured memories on Lake Amistad. Throughout their marriage, they not only built a loving family but also built and lived in more than 52 homes. Don loved to build, and Doris loved to decorate—a wonderful partnership that reflected their creativity and shared vision. She had a real knack for floral arranging and had her own silk flower floral business, The Arrangement for many years. This is no surprise given her parents’ legacy as florists.

Doris was a gifted hostess who loved entertaining family and friends. She filled her homes with warmth, laughter, delicious meals, and beautiful flowers. One of Doe’s greatest pleasures was gathering family around the table. Thanksgiving and Christmas were especially dear to her heart. Family members will forever remember her slow-cooked turkey, famous dressing, and incredible giblet gravy that became cherished traditions and highlights of every holiday gathering. There were always plenty of desserts to be shared and room for one more at the table. She had a special gift for making everyone feel welcome, loved, and at home.

Wherever she lived, she became actively involved in her community. She served two consecutive terms as President of the Women’s Club in Kerrville and later served two consecutive terms as President of the Alto Women’s Club in Ruidoso, New Mexico. She was also a devoted bridge player and often found herself leading local bridge groups, enjoying the game until just weeks before her passing.

Her faith was an important part of her life. Doris served as an Elder in the Presbyterian Church, served on various church committees, and attended Bible Study Fellowship for several years. She sought to live a life marked by love, kindness, and service to others. She had the joy of the Lord, which shone through her beautiful smile and playful winks. She was never without her lipstick, matching outfit and sparkling jewels. Her smile and sense of humor remained with her, even in the final hours of her life.

Doe was deeply loved, is already greatly missed, and will forever be cherished in our hearts. The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Pegasus Independent Living, Methodist Willowbrook Hospital, St. Gabriel’s Hospice, and the loving caregivers of Infinity Home Care Services, whose compassionate care made her final days a beautiful expression of God’s grace.

Doris is survived by her daughters, Cynthia Lee; Debbie Martin and husband Bud; and Susan Caldwell and husband Fred. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Eric Wynn and wife Christy and their children, Lane and Oaklynn; Christi Barnas and husband Jason and their children, Lucy and Cora; Marsha Guidry and husband Ken and their children, Keith, Addison, Kenslee, and Abel; Shelly Condra and fiancé Daryl Shirah and her children, Marisa, Quattro, and Benjamin; Kimberly McGinnis and husband Ryan and their children, Myra and Millie; Amanda Morris and husband Stephen and their daughter Amelia; Lindsey McConathy and husband Michael and their children, Leo and Lucy; and great-great-grandson Ronin Pendleton.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Don Stallings; son, David; her son in law Jim Lee; her parents; her sister; and many other loved ones.

We thank God for the blessing of Doris’s life and for the love, wisdom, joy, and unwavering faith she shared with all who knew her. A verse that guided Doris throughout her life was Romans 14:8: “Whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.” She lived her life in that assurance, and her family rests in that same promise today.

While we grieve her absence, we rejoice in the certainty that she is now in the presence of her Savior and that we will see her again. Whether it was her strong faith, warm hug, beautiful smile, playful wink, famous dressing, or treasured recipes, she would want us to know to “Pass It On.” She was an inspiration to each of us.
