Douglas Rowell

KERRVILLE Douglas Ray Rowell, 84, of Kerrville, TX, passed peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2014 at the Kerrville VA Hospital. Doug was born October 24, 1929, in Highlands, TX to Monnie McGee Rowell and Lotti Lucille Cadenhead Rowell

He graduated high school and then furthered his education by earning an MBA. His dedication to commitment was evident in his service as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Mary Latham Rowell on August 26, 1956.

Dougs major accomplishment in life that he was so proud of was his career as a registered investment advisor. He was VicePresident of American General Capitol and later owned his own firm, D. R. Rowell Company. Upon retirement in 1992, Doug and Mary moved to Kerrville to settle in to a much slower pace in life.

Doug was very active in the Elks Lodge, the American Legion, and the John Burch Society. He was an avid dancer, and was an Arthur Murray Dance Instructor. He was well known for his teaching abilities and taught dance in Kerrville for a number of years. Doug was a lifelong member of the Calvary Baptist Church, Henderson, TX.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Monnie McGee Rowell and Lotti Lucille Cadenhead Rowell wife, Mary Latham Rowell and sisters, Louise and Mary.

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his many friends and neighbors from the organizations in which he belonged, and his brothers and sisters from the military.

Memorial Services will be held at 10 AM, Monday, November 10, 2014 in the Sanctuary of Faith Christian Church, Kerrville, TX with the Rev. Joseph Fagenbush officiating. Inurnment for Doug and Mary will follow at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX

In lieu of floral tributes, memorial contributions can be made to the Elks Lodge, American Legion, or to the Faith Christian Church.
