Emma H. Kennedy, 100 yrs. old, passed away at home Thursday, August 1, 2002. She was in the care of VistaCare Family Hospice. Emma was born on June 14, 1902, the youngest of three children to Everett B. and Alice M. Brown in Grants Pass, Oregon. Emma married Theodore A. Kennedy on September 2, 1921. Emma helped put Theodore through medical school as the head bookkeeper for the Jantzen Knitting Mills, and also kept books for Theodore while he was in private practice in the state of Washington. Dr. and Mrs. Kennedy were transferred to the Kerrville Veterans Hospital in January of 1936. Emma became active in numerous organizations. Emma was past president of the Kerrville Music Club. During her tenure as president the Kerrville Concert Association, now known as KPAS, was formed. Emma also served as president of the Kerr County Girl Scouts, and served as their camp or for several years too. Mrs. Kennedy was an active choir member of St. Peters Episcopal Church from the later 1930s until the 1970s. Emma enjoyed league bowling and weekly bridge games as well as writing her column for the Take It Easy Trailer Park. Emma was preceded in death by Dr. Kennedy in 1979, and her son Harwood S. Kennedy in 1949, as well as a foster son Thomas A. Bailey in 19. Emma is survived by her daughter, Susie Johnson and husband, Robert Johnson, three granddaughters, Ann Webb, Tammy Johnson, and Carol Stewart, all of Kerrville, also 9 greatgrandchildren, and 4 greatgreatgrandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, August 5, 2002 in the chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home. Kerrville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
