Fred Samuel Bernhard,81, passed from this life peacefully in his home at Lake Buchanan Texas on Tuesday, February 20, 2018. He was born on May 1, 1936 in Menard, Texas.

Fred graduated from Tivy High school in 1954. He attended Tarleton State University and then came back to his lifetime home of Kerrville. He and his wife, Melody, participated in the Ave-Cot Water Thill Shows in the late 1950's. An article about the first ski show from the Kerrville Daily Times wrote "Freddie Bernhard, who takes part in several acts, did a spectacular demonstration of slalom skiing, shoe skiing, and barefoot skiing. He is considered one of the outstanding slalom skiers in the nation."

In the late 1950's he joined Bernhard's Ingram Lockers with his two brothers, Harold and John Allen and their uncle Milton Bernhard. For many years they over saw the daily operations of the retail market. They sold the business in the early 1980' s.

Fred loved to play golf and spend time with his family. He was very popular for making his famous "Pop's Pickles," which everyone loved.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Melody Watson Bernhard.

Fred is survived by two daughters; Becky Coons and husband, Ray of Kerrville, TX and Julie Woolway and husband, Jim of San Carlos, CA; 2 grandson's; Matthew and his wife, Lauren of Clearwater, FL and Kyle Coons of Lake Buchanan, TX; granddaughter, Jenna Woolway; great-grandsons, Tyde Coons and brand new, 1-1/2 week old Fisher Coons; along with a host of many loving friends and neighbors who will miss him immensely

A Celebration of Life will be held in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home at 11 AM, Saturday, March 10, 2018 with the Rev. Frankie Enloe officiating.
