Maria Escobar

Maria Eva Escobar, born February 5, 1943, in Kerrville, Texas to Leonard Frausto and Carmen Collazo, went to be with our Heavenly Father at the age of 78. She passed peacefully at a care center in Kerrville, Texas surrounded by her loved ones.

Everyone knew her as an amazing Mother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She had a heart of gold, made friends easily, never met a stranger, and loved big.

Eva deeply loved and was extremely proud of her sole surviving son, John Garcia Jr., a professional actor and nationally published Theater critic who resides in Dallas.

She was a very dependable and dedicated person. She worked two jobs most of her life. She started working at a young age to help her parents provide for the family. After 40 years of service, Eva retired from the Kerrville State Hospital in April 2020. She continued to work for Church’s Chicken and was known for standing at the drive thru window serving people with her big, contagious smile that could light up a room. Not even her customer’s pets could go hungry as she would give them treats when she was greeted by them at the window. It did not matter if you could afford your meal or not, if you were hungry, Eva made sure you were fed. Her customers dearly missed her when she was on vacation and away from the window. If they saw her in town, they would stop and ask when she was coming back. Eva was the “Chicken Lady” to many, and she will truly be missed.

Eva was preceded in death by her parents, Carmen Collazo Frausto and Leonard Frausto, son, Roland Garcia, sister, Leonora Rodriguez, and brother, Carlos Frausto.

Survivors include her son, John Garcia Jr. from Dallas, Texas, sisters, Maria Odelia Perez from San Antonio, Texas and Linda Lopez (Milton) from Kerrville, Texas, brother, Arthur Frausto (Maggie) from Kerrville, Texas and many nephews, nieces, and friends. We will never forget what an incredibly strong and loving woman you were.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to our friends, the staff at Hill Top Village Care Center, and New Century Hospice. A special thank you to Velda Waliky who stuck with the family until the end.

A celebration of her life will be held at 10AM on  Friday, June 18, 2021 at Kerrville Funeral Home. The service will be officiated by Pastor James Wilson.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kerrville Funeral Home (830)895-5111
