Ralph Erwin Hines, 89, of San Antonio, Texas, passed from this life on October 1, 2023 at his residence. He was born February 8, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK to David Clarence Hines and Jessie Lucille Leonard Hines. Ralph was the middle child of 5, the eldest being Wayne Hines, La Wanda Hines Willis, Johnny Hines, and the youngest, Jerry Hines.

 

Ralph attended Central and Grant High Schools respectively, and continued on to the US Airforce, enlisting on November 9, 1953. Ralph married the love of his life, Selma Jane Turner on June 29, 1956 in Fort Worth, Texas. During Ralph’s military service, he served in Korea and rose through the ranks to Staff Seargent before being honorably discharged from the US Air Force on November 8, 1961. During his time in the US Air Force, Ralph obtained the knowledge and skills to work with aviation technology. During civilian life, Ralph chose to advance his career in aviation technology from 1959 going forward with General Dynamics, while residing with his beautiful wife, Selma, in Arlington, Texas. During his career, Ralph continued his career with Lockheed Martin into his retirement. Ralph spent his retirement years in Clovis, New Mexico with Selma from 1999 to 2019, then moving to San Antonio, Texas.

 

He is preceded in death by his parents, David Clarence Hines and Jessie Lucille Leonard Hines; his loving wife, Selma Jane Hines, as well as his 4 siblings.

 

Those left to honor and cherish his memory are his loving children, Robert Hines and wife, Kelly Smith of Dallas, Texas, Daniel Hines and wife, Katey Hines of Katy, Texas and Larry Hines and wife, Rita Hines of Clovis, New Mexico; grandchildren, Braden Hines, Lindey Hines Edge and husband Isaac Edge, Aaron Hines and Ryan Hines. In addition to Ralph’s children and grandchildren, he had many nephews and nieces he loved dearly as his own children, as well as his many cherished in-laws.

 

We send our appreciation and gratitude to the staff nurses, and caregivers at Villa de San Antonio senior living facility for all of the amazing care, kindness, love and support they have given Ralph and our family over the last few years.

 

The family would like everyone to join them for a Visitation starting at 10am on Saturday, October 7, 2023 at the Kerrville Funeral Home. Services will follow at 10:30am in the chapel with a procession to Garden of Memories Cemetery to immediately follow.
