Ruby Ybarra Young, 96, passed on to be with our Lord on September 28, 2021 at Peterson

Regional Medical Center in Kerrville, Texas.

She was born on July 17, 1925 in Palacios, Texas, to Rosa Flores and Alfonso Ybarra. Ruby was

preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, son John Edwin Young, and husband Capt.

Edwin Heflin Young, Jr. She is survived by her daughters Elizabeth Y. Bain of Ontario, California,

and Carol English Garcia of Palacios, Texas.

She graduated from Palacios High School in 1943 along with classmates Irving Petersen and

Homer Aparicio, Sr., to name a few. While in school, there was a contest asking for an essay to

encourage the purchase of U.S. savings bonds. She won the cash prize. She played first chair

clarinet in the band, and sang soprano in the quartet that traveled to Camp Hulen to entertain

  the soldiers stationed there.

Ruby played piano at the Second Presbyterian Church in Palacios for several years. But, her

greatest talent was Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Liszt, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff, and frowned

when asked to play the famous “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy from Company B”. She was very fond

of cats, always feeding neighborhood strays. The loss of her beloved cat that escaped a vet

clinic led her to invent a restrainer/breeder/bather that later became her first business. She

received a patent without any assistance from an attorney; an unusual accomplishment at any

  age.

She was an excellent seamstress, and could duplicate any garment from looking at it in the

store window. She also enjoyed cooking, caring for her indoor African violet plants, and painting

lovely artwork. She adored her seven grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. In spite of her

age, she did not need glasses to read or to drive her Jaguar to eat out daily. She will be greatly

  missed.
