Sammie Hyde Sanborn

Sammie Hyde Sanborn, age 86, of Kerrville, Texas, was surrounded by family before dying peacefully in her sleep at home on Saturday morning, January 15, 2022. She was in hospice care for three months prior and was brave to the end.

Sammie is survived by her adoring husband of 63 years, Marvin L. Sanborn. Children, Brad Sanborn, Joleen Sanborn and husband, Alex Thurlow, and her beloved grandchildren, Katarina Sanborn and Blake Sanborn will greatly miss her unconditional love, support, and guidance. She is leaving behind her brother, Leon H. Hyde. Preceded in death are her parents Leon Hayes Hyde and Eula Hines Hyde of Houston, Texas, and siblings Mildred Maydell Hyde Rader and Gilma Wayne Hyde.

Sammie followed Marvin to Kerrville in 1958 to begin their love story. Starting with nothing, they built an unwavering and loving marriage that the family has been privileged to witness and aspire to create within their own lives. Life’s simple pleasures brought her the greatest joy - family weekends, sitting on the porch watching the river run by, researching family genealogy, and her dog, Zach.

Sammie worked at Mooney Aircraft for almost 40 years where she served as the secretary to many CEOs who came and went over the course of her employment. This is a testament to who she was for those she worked with - steadfast, capable, and held in high regard. But in 1998 she was ready for retirement after her first grandchild arrived and she delighted in the joys of being a grandmother.

Throughout her life, she exemplified strength, honesty, and love for her family and friends. Her feisty spirit, encouraging words, and easy laugh will always be remembered. Her family will continue to be guided by her as they travel through life.

No funeral or memorial service is immediately planned per Sammie’s wishes. You may celebrate Sammie’s life by donating to the hospice fund for Peterson Health Foundation in Kerrville.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kerrville Funeral Home. (830) 895-5111
