Shirley Gray Smith, age 82, was born March 4, 1935 in Austin, TX to Roland N. and Velma M. (Lundquist) Blackmore.

After growing up in the Austin, TX area, Shirley graduated from Georgetown High School. She furthered her education by earning a Bachelors Degree from the University of Texas, and a Masters of Education from Southwest Texas University. Shirley retired from education after serving many years as a public school teacher.

In retirement, Shirley was not one to sit still. Shirley and her husband Ed spent a tremendous Amount of time educating others about the organizations that meant everything to them. She was the founding President of the Joshua D. Brown Chapter - The Daughters of the Republic of Texas. She was also an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Kerrville Chapter 24 and Medina Chapter 988.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Ed Smith; her sons, Ty Ray Isherwood and David Smith, along with many loving friends and neighbors who will cherish her friendship for eternity.

A time of reflection and visitation will be held at Kerrville Funeral Home, 1221 Junction Highway, Kerrville, TX 78028 from 1 - 2 PM, on Wednesday, February 14, 2018. Funeral Services will be held in the Main Chapel of Kerrville Funeral Home at 2 PM following visitation with Pastor Joseph Fagenbush officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest at Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
