It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sonia Gonzalez Diaz, she went to be with our Lord on Monday, September 29th, 2025, after a lifelong battle with diabetes.
Sonia was born on November 16, 1965, in Laredo, Texas to Andres V. Gonzalez and Maria De Jesus Gomez Gonzalez. She graduated from Martin High School and received her associates from Laredo Community College, soon after moved to San Antonio, Texas where she made her life with her husband and children.
Sonia’s favorite hobby after she lost her vision was to Crochet, she could make you anything, she blessed every new baby in our family with a beautiful blanket and matching beanie, poncho’s, hoodies, scarfs and so much more. She was so talented and did everything with so much Love. Her wit and laughter will be missed.
Sonia is survived by her beloved son, Joshua Andrew Diaz; daughter, Olivia Marie Diaz; son-in-law, Jesus Salvador Garcia; grandchildren, Joy Lea Sanchez & Azrael Jay “AJ” Garcia. They were her heart, her world, she lived for them. Her beloved sister, Abigail G. Garza, nieces & nephews, Annette Susie Rice (Todd B Rice), Eduardo Garza (Monica Garza), David Daniel Garza and Peggy G Pinzon (Jesus M. Pinzon), beloved sister; Ana Maria Chapa (Faustino “Tino” Chapa III), Faustino Chapa IV (Doris Chapa), Claudia Ayala (Juan Ayala); her brother, Ricardo Gonzalez (Elizabeth Gonzalez); sister-in-law, Yolanda Gonzalez and other family and friends that will miss her dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe A. Diaz; brothers, Andres Gonzalez Jr. (Maria Luisa Gonzalez) & Victor M. Gonzalez; nephew, Jesus M. Pinzon; brother in law, Eduardo V. Garza and her beloved parents.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on October 23rd, 2025, Rosary at 10:30 am, Mass at 11:00am, St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church 1602 Thousand Oaks Dr. San Antonio, TX 78232. https://www.stmarkevangelist.com.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, San Antonio Lighthouse for the Blind or Texas Ramp Project who all blessed Sonia’s life.
Eternal rest grant unto Sonia G. Diaz, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May the souls of the faithful departed thru the mercy of God Rest in peace. Amen
