Theodore "Ted" Zgourides

Theodore “Ted” John Zgourides, 87, a 40-year resident of Kerrville, passed away peacefully on September 9, 2021 after a cancer diagnosis.

Ted was born on November 29, 1933 in Houston, TX to Greek-immigrant parents John Zgourides and Tacia Peet. Ted graduated from Stephen F. Austin High School, and was an active member of the Greek Orthodox Church, the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA), and the Greek community in Houston. He graduated from the University of Texas with a business degree.

On July 26, 1958, Ted married Katherine Palios of Austin, and worked as a Houston stockbroker. The family moved to Kerrville in 1981 where Ted continued in the brokerage business. He retired in 1989, then remained active in the Orthodox Church and in the community as a volunteer tutor with learning disabled students at Schreiner University.

A true survivor, he recovered from polio as child, and in the 1970s and 1990s, he remarkably overcame both lung and breast cancers. Through these trials and health challenges, he maintained an optimistic outlook on life.

He had a passion for all things Greek, especially the food, the music, and the dancing. He also loved to travel the country and took many road trips. A man of deep faith who read his Bible and prayed daily, Ted was a gentle person who was much loved and who will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

Ted was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gus Zgourides (Barbara). He is survived by his wife of 63-years, and his children, George Zgourides (Christie), Kim Fergerson (Jeff), and Steve Zgourides, all of San Antonio, as well as grandchildren, Casey Sarabia, Piper Fergerson, Jacob Fergerson, Nicholas Zgourides, all of San Antonio, Katrianna Zgourides of Corpus Christi, and many other relatives and loved ones.

Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of the professionals at Kerrville Funeral Home (830)895-5111.
