IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Tommy Jerome
Gage
November 1, 1948 – January 1, 2026
Tommy Jerome Gage was born November 1, 1948 in Houston, TX to parents Theodore Bryant Gage and Lola Beatrice Gage. He was the second of their 7 children. Tommy passed from this life on January 1, 2026, at the age of 77, after a prolonged illness.
Tommy spent the first years of his life growing up in Houston and attended Ridgecrest Elementary, Landrum Junior High and Spring Branch High School. At age 15 he confessed his belief in Christ and was baptized at Heights Church of Christ where the family attended. Later on, the family would move to several locations which included Lexington & Liberty Hill eventually settling down in Ingram during the mid-1960s. Not long after their arrival in Ingram, tragedy struck. Tommy’s father suffered a massive heart attack as they worked together trying to wrangle a cow. His father would pass away shortly afterward. Tommy’s role as the oldest son and big brother suddenly took on a whole new meaning. Being just a young man in his late teens, he did his best to help his recently widowed mother and young siblings. Tommy pushed through the many hardships that followed. He would go on to attend Tivy High School where he was a member of 4H & FFA and a proud graduate of the class of 1967. After high school, he returned to Houston where he lived with his older sister, and for a short time, was a member of the Houston Fire Department. It was during this time that duty called and he would soon be enlisted in the United States Navy. During his enlistment, he received training in basic electronics and electricity along with completing Electronics Technician Class “A” School. He served aboard the USS Meredith (DD 890) and completed a yearlong tour of duty at Cam Ranh Vietnam. He was honorably discharged in January 1973. Upon completion of his military service, he returned to the Ingram area and put his recent Naval training to work. He would go on to dabble in various electronics and construction related trades. He eventually opened his own electronics repair shop (Tommy’s Sight & Sound) and was one of the first satellite TV installers in the area. He also spent several years as a Cable TV installer. During the early 1980s, he served on the council for the newly incorporated City of Ingram. He was known to seek out any and all spirited political discussions. In the late 1990s he obtained his Commercial Driver License with the help of a cousin in Thorndale. This same cousin also put him to work in his first trucking related job. He would go on from there and later used his newly obtained CDL to secure a job transporting U.S. Mail between San Antonio and the Kerr County area. He retired from this activity sometime around 2015. After retirement, he spent his last 10 years living on family property aka (“The Hill”) under the “Shadow of The Windmill”. If you were fortunate enough to ever meet Tommy Gage, you knew that he was definitely a one-of-a-kind original, never to be duplicated.
