William Edward Balcom, 1957-2025
William Edward Balcom, known to his friends and family as Ned, passed away peacefully at his home in Kerrville, TX in the evening hours of Friday, August 1,2025. He was surrounded by his family, who loved him dearly.
A lifelong Texan, Ned was born in Corsicana on August 28, 1957, to William Harvey (Bill) and Ruth Balcom. He met the love of his life, Tommie Randle, at Corsicana High School and they later married on May 26, 1979. Ned spent his entire career at Mobil Pipeline/Exxon Mobil, from 1978-2019. He began as a pipeliner, spent time working in Saudi Arabia, and ended his career as an area supervisor. Through work, he met some of his best friends who became like family over the years. In 2019 he and Tommie retired to the hill country and enjoyed every moment of life together.
Everyone who knew Ned knew that there was never a dull moment when he was around. He could build anything, including the house that he and Tommie raised their family in, and he could fix anything that was not working properly. He was passionate in passing these traits onto his children and was a wonderful teacher and role model as he worked side by side with each of them as they remodeled homes of their own. Ned was a master of all things mechanical and loved to work on engines with his sons. Together they restored his father’s 1971 F100, tractors, and countless other projects. Family, neighbors, and friends all knew that they could always count on Ned for a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Ruth Balcom, brothers-in-law, Steve McFerran and Randy Mumme, and parents-in-law Tommy and Carol Randle. He is survived by his wife, Tommie Balcom and their children, Jake Balcom and Hadley Potts, Andy and Morgan Balcom, Adrienne and Jay Rowland, his sisters and brothers-in-law, Claire McFerran, Becky and Dana Griffin, and Margaret and Richey Cutrer, siblings-in-law Lynne Mumme, Steve Randle, and Mark and Robin Randle, numerous nieces and nephews, and his cats Eightball and Speck (who were in fact house cats after all).
Ned would like to be remembered at his favorite place on his favorite day, a celebration of his life is planned for July 4, 2026, at the Balcom family’s farm in Corsicana, TX.
