Bernadette (Wagner) Jones

Bernadette Wagner Jones, 100, who was lovingly known as “Bunny” by her family and friends, passed away Thursday, August 12, 2021, at a local assisted living facility.

She was a native of San Antonio and graduate of Brackenridge High School where she was a proud member of the Purple Jackets cheer squad. She met her future husband-to-be, Clyde Jones, on a blind date. They were married on January 5, 1941 and became Kerrville residents in the mid-1940s.  Bunny and Clyde, along with Al and Florence Mason, co-owned Kerrville Radio Station KERV for twelve years.

Bunny was a dedicated volunteer for many causes over the years. She was the founder and volunteer sponsor of the first cheer squad for the Kerrville Little Fighting Irish at Notre Dame parochial school in 1954. Bunny also served on numerous committees and worked tirelessly at the Notre Dame Church Festival for more years than we can remember. She was a passionate and active volunteer for many years in support of the Hill Country Youth Ranch.

Bunny was predeceased by her husband Clyde, her parents Edwin Lee and Hazel Smith Wagner, her brother Royce Wagner and sister, Betty Wagner Budnick, all of San Antonio.

Bunny is survived by her three sons, Elton R. (Patsy), Alcoa, Tennessee, Melvin T. (Louise), Ingram, Texas and Preston D. (Pam), San Antonio, Texas. All three sons are graduates of Tivy High School and Texas A&M University.
